We are proud to introduce EGYM at the Y! EGYM is now available at the MacColl YMCA for all YMCA of Pawtucket Members, providing a comprehensive training option that takes the guesswork out of exercise. EGYM smart circuit machines automatically adjust to your custom settings for weight, range of motion and cardiovascular exercise, guiding you through a full-body workout in as little as 20 minutes.

DO YOU KNOW YOUR BIOAGE?

Your coach will determine your BioAge by conducting a combination of strength, cardio and metabolism assessments. Your EGYM BioAge metric shows how you're doing compared to the typical, average values of those in your age group. The BioAge metrics are a great way to easily track your workout progress.

EGYM machines adjust as you progress through your training plan with automatically initiated strength tests every 6 sessions ensure that you’re always training with the right weight for your training goal and current performance. You don't have to remember your weights or your settings. Scan your EGYM band and go!

FOLLOW THE CURVE

EASY AND SAFE WORKOUTS

The EGYM curve makes your workout easy and safe while providing plenty of motivation. The EGYM curve will specify the correct range of motion and speed for the exercise, depending on your training goal. A video game-like interface provides additional fun and motivates you to perform every repetition as directed, to "collect those coins."

EGYM FAQs

Q: Do I need to be flexible?

A: Not at all. Many participants begin Y Stretch because they feel tight, stiff, or limited in their mobility.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily is recommended. Athletic apparel is ideal.

Q: Is assisted stretching painful?

A: Stretching should create a feeling of tension but should never be painful. Your stretch specialist will work within your comfort level throughout the session.

Q: How often should I schedule a stretch session?

A: This depends on your goals, activity level, and flexibility needs. Many participants benefit from regular sessions as part of their wellness routine.

Q: Is Y Stretch similar to massage therapy?

A: No. While both can help reduce tension and improve recovery, Y Stretch focuses on improving flexibility, mobility, and range of motion through assisted stretching techniques.

 
 

Q: Can I use Evolt if I have a pacemaker or other implanted medical device?

A: No. Individuals with pacemakers, defibrillators, or other implanted electronic medical devices should not use the Evolt scanner. If you have questions about whether Evolt is appropriate for you, please consult your physician before booking a scan.

Q: Do I need a reservation?

A: Yes. Appointments are required to ensure availability and allow time for a personalized experience.

 

Q: Is there a fee for an Evolt scan?

A: Yes.

  • YMCA Members: $20 per scan
  • Guests/Non-Members: $40 per scan

The interactive video screen on every machine guides you to move at the right pace with the right form. EGYM can help you get a complete workout every time, without worrying about counting reps or keeping a workout journal.

Tailored Programs

EGYM includes eight tailored programs specific to your goals. Tailored programs include:

  1. Weight Loss: Decrease body weight
  2. Muscle Building: Improve bone density and build muscle
  3. Athletic: Increase power and decrease risk of fall
  4. General Fitness: Enhance functional mobility
  5. Rehab Fit: Low-intensity program designed to assist with injury recovery
  6. Body Toning: Reduce body fat and increase muscle definition
  7. Metabolic Fit: Focus on muscle endurance
  8. Immunity Boost: Simple and progressive re-entry to exercise after time off

Training Methods

In addition to the eight tailored programs available, there are also four different training methods that may be found within your program. These training methods will alter the feel of the workout by changing the speed, weight load, and number of repetitions. This provides variation in your workout, all while maintaining the same overall focus.

Training methods include:

  • Regular: One (1) weight. Classic controlled repetition tempo/speed.
  • Negative: Two (2) weights. Easier on the first half of the rep, heavier on the second half (or return of rep).
  • Adaptive: Decreases weight mid-set as it senses your muscles getting tired.
  • Explonic: Meant for rapid, explosive movement.

Other Features of EGYM

  • Workout parameters such as training weight, number of repetitions, speed of movement, or length of sessions automatically adjust to individual users.
  • Gamification elements, like scoring points on the training curve, also enhance motion control and motivate you to perform the exercises correctly.
  • Regular maximum strength measurements automatically calculate the ideal training weight on each machine and continuously adapts the parameters in line with your training achievements. This stimulates steady growth and prevents training plateaus.
